All you Need to know before Appearing for LIC Agent Exam


LIC is the biggest insurance company in India. It has fortunately been able to sustain its position on the top since its emergence in the market. The company offers various kinds of life insurance policies to its customers. The LIC agents are the ones who promote these policies to the customers. However, there are exams conducted by the IRDAI that decides who can become these agents. After the individual has qualified the exam along with the training, he will be known as a LIC agent. The students who are willing to sit for the LIC agent exam need to know a few details before appearing for the same. 

LIC Agent Exam

LIC agent is a person whose primary work is to promote the insurance policies provided by the company. The agents are not an employee of the company. The largest insurance provider makes sure that it becomes a form of business or self-employment for the people. A large pool of talented people applies for LIC agent exams every year. 

Process to become a LIC agent

The difficulty level of the process is entirely subjective. A person who has the desired set of skills can work smoothly, whereas others have to work hard to set in this field. Any individual who has successfully completed his Senior secondary exam with 50% or above marks is eligible to sit for the exam. The age of the person should be above 18 years.

Following are the steps to become a LIC agent:

Step 1: Register yourself in the LIC portal 

First of all, the candidate needs to pass the eligibility criteria and register themselves by providing all the necessary details. If you are more comfortable in registering offline, then visit your nearest LIC office and contact the LIC development manager.

Step 2: Schedule an Interview

Schedule an interview with the branch manager. It is essential to pass the interview because you won’t be able to achieve your ambition unless you are successful in the process.

Step 3: Enroll for the training

On the successful completion of the interview enrol yourself in training conducted in the LIC office of your city. The training takes three to fours days and goes for 25 hours straight. You will get in-depth knowledge about the rules and regulations of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India.

Step 5: Register for the Exam:

The final and most important step is to appear for the exam known as LIC Agent Test (PRT). You can make either online or offline registration for this exam.

Documents required for the registration:

  • Four colourful passport size photo.
  • Photocopy of SSC or highest qualification mark sheet.
  • Photocopy of PAN card.
  • Bank account details

Fee structure:

  • Registration fee- Rs. 150
  • Online training fee- Rs. 150
  • Books and other study materials- Rs. 200
  • Pre recruitment test fee- Rs. 500

At the time of making online registration with IRDAI, the candidate will be provided with a Unique Reference Number (URN) and a password. It is very required that you note down the number as you may need that later.

LIC Exam hall tickets:

The candidates who have applied online can download their LIC agent Pre recruitment test hall ticket from the IRDAI portal. On the other hand, the candidates who have applied offline will have to collect their hall ticket from the nearest LIC branch. Their ticket needs to get attested by a senior LIC officer. 

LIC agent pre-recruitment test

The preparation for LIC agent entrance exam is also known as LIC agent pre-recruitment test. The candidates can prepare for the test by going through books and materials available on the portal. Along with that, they need to read the newspapers on a daily basis and make their general knowledge very strong. 

Exam syllabus:

The syllabus consists of basics from English, Hindi, Maths and General knowledge, along with details on various rules, regulations and laws made by IRDAI. It is said that the candidates need to complete 100 hours of studies before they appear for LIC agent exam.

Exam pattern:

It is important to know the pattern of the exam paper to plan your preparation well. 

  • The total duration of the exam is 60 minutes.
  • The paper consists of questions 50 questions.
  • All the questions will be objective. The candidate needs to pick the correct answer from the given options.
  • For each right answer, one marks will be rewarded. The test is a total of 50 marks. The minimum marks required to qualify the test is 18. 

The license to sell the insurance policy will only be provided to the candidates who qualify the examination. Although, the candidates can appear for the online mock test to check whether their preparation is up to the mark or not. 

Candidates need to have a basic knowledge about the regulation process of the Insurance industry. The primary purpose of the exam is to check the knowledge of the candidates in the field where they are going to lead their career.
